Where to start

Browse the Internet

Look for sites you like and take note of those you don't. View your competitors' sites. What's good? What isn't?

Gather all information relevant for your site. You know your business or subject best so we ask you to supply the pictures, logos (if any), and relevant information to include on your site. These should be provided via email or disk if possible, and in a finished, web-ready state.

Hosts and Domains

You will require a host for your site files. This is a company that allows you to store your pages on their server for the public to access via the Internet and requires a fee unless you use a free hosting service (see below). You may also wish to have your own personal domain name such as www.myname.com. which you will have to pay a separate yearly fee to maintain.

Hosting Considerations ~ Free Hosts

If you already have Internet access your ISP (Internet Service Provider - like Telus and Shaw - the folks you pay each month for Internet access) most likely will offer free web space (usually 5 MB). Some charge an additional fee for business sites, however, so it is best to check with them.

There are free hosting options available on numerous sites that require only an ad banner be placed on your site, although some will not allow business sites.

Hosting Considerations ~ Paid Hosts

There are many companies that offer paid hosting options, of course. Features vary so it is wise to look around. We can help you research based on your needs although the choice is ultimately yours. Most hosts offer many different rate packages on a monthly fee basis and your own domain name (www.yourname.com) for an additional yearly fee.
